Highlighted Projects:
Arlington County, Virginia
MetroBike is consulting Arlington County, Virginia on the development of its bike-sharing service. Tasks that MetroBike has performed for Arlington include:
- researching bike-sharing systems and models of provision,
- developing a Request for Proposals (released in April 2009),
- creating the service’s policies,
- negotiating with the selected vendor and writing a service agreement,
- branding the service with name, logo, and look and feel with the assistance of an advertising agency,
- locating and writing grant funding requests for State and Federal opportunities,
- creating partnerships with local business organizations for sponsorship support of the service,
- developing a sponsorship and advertising plan for third parties to sponsor stations and the service and to advertise on the bikes,
- formalizing processes for station permitting on public and private property,
- selecting station locations,
- developing a protective site plan for on-street station locations, and
- coordinating with jurisdictions in the Washington, D.C. area to ensure the service’s potential to grow to be a regional service.
MetroBike will provide management support of the County’s program during the implementation and operational phases of the new bike-sharing service.
City of Copenhagen, Denmark
MetroBike researched and wrote a paper on models of provision, global trends, and financing methods for the City of Copenhagen’s Bicycle Office. Also, MetroBike served as an advisor to the jury tasked with selecting Copenhagen’s next generation bike-sharing system.
Clear Channel Adshel
MetroBike co-authored the bike-sharing component of Clear Channel Adshel’s (now Clear Channel Outdoor) winning bid for the City of Washington, D.C. Department of Transportation’s SmartBike D.C. service. SmartBike D.C. is the first bike-sharing service in North America in 2008 and has 120 bikes and 10 stations.
